A New Direction are a London-based non-profit, generating opportunities for young people to unlock their creativity. Create Jobs is powered by A New Direction.
What’s Create Jobs all about?
Create Jobs is an employability programme for young Londoners. Since 2011 they’ve been transforming London’s workforce by supporting and developing individuals who are underrepresented in the creative and tech industries.
The programme will offer virtual work placements delivered with startup community YSYS, who will help you learn skills in careers ranging from content production and software development to digital product design and podcasting. Alongside learning with fantastic industry leaders, you’ll receive one-to-one support and careers advice as well as access to a community of fellow young creatives, connections to mentoring opportunities and ongoing training that will help you get that dream job. The virtual programme will run for six-weeks, with places for 60 young people to take part.
Additional to the virtual work placements, Create Jobs is also running an immersive enterprise and employability course Future Startup Founders Now that will provide participants with insight and support on launching a startup business. This course designed by industry expert Hustle Crew and in partnership with range of leading tech creatives including GUAP, Andy Ayim, Bejay Mulenga, Sonya Barlow and many more. Future Startup Founder Now will also include prize funding for winning businesses to be used on purchasing laptops, software and capital equipment.
What will you gain from taking part?
You will collaborate in teams to work on live industry briefs whilst taking part in training, workshops and industry masterclasses. At the end of the programme it doesn’t just stop there. Everyone will leave with a tailored exit plan and Create Jobs will follow-up with you over the next four months to support your next steps into employment or further training. Every part of the programme has been co-designed with fantastic industry partners. Sessions will be run by industry titans with the best industry knowledge. Past speakers have included Google Digital Garage, Publicis Sapient and Worldwide FM. This is hands on industry experience not to be missed.
Who’s Create Jobs for?
This programme is perfect for you if you want to show off your creative skills gaining experience working on high-profile campaigns. You can apply as long as you’re between the ages of 18-24 and live in Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark or Wandsworth.
